Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that penetrates deep into the pore lining to dissolve the oil and dead skin cells that cause breakouts, blackheads, and congestion. Unlike physical scrubs or rinse-off cleansers, BHA serums and liquid exfoliants work at the skin level — loosening the bonds that hold dead cells together, clearing trapped sebum, and helping the skin renew itself over time.
Regular use of a salicylic acid serum reduces active breakouts, minimises blackheads, and refines the appearance of enlarged pores. Because it is oil-soluble, it is particularly effective for oily and combination skin types and for anyone with comedonal or cystic acne. For best results, apply a few drops to clean, dry skin before moisturiser. Start with every other night and build up frequency as your skin adjusts. Pair with a gentle moisturiser and daily sunscreen since exfoliating actives increase sun sensitivity.
